Become An Active Disciple

Become An Active Disciple

The most important walk that you will ever take in your life is the walk to begin a relationship with Jesus Christ. The doors of St. Luke Baptist Church are open to all those who seek to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and grow in relationship with Him and in fellowship with other believers. We welcome you to join us in our journey towards spiritual growth and service.

Steps To Becoming An Active Disciple
To become a disciple of St. Luke Baptist Church, you must:
        1. Accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior
        2. Attend and complete New Discipleship Classes
        3. Be baptized (if you have not previously been baptized)
        4. Receive the Right Hand of Fellowship

First Steps
To begin your walk with God, you must first accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. Individuals may accept the invitation to join St. Luke Baptist Church by walking to the front of the sanctuary when the Pastor issues “the call to salvation” at each Sunday service. You may also unite with our congregation online or in person during any worship service or Bible Study, or at another prearranged time.

You will meet with one of our New Discipleship Counselors who will pray the Prayer of Salvation with you, collect your information and provide you with details on the next steps.

                    Prayer of Salvation
Heavenly Father, I come to you admitting that I am a sinner. Now, I choose to turn away from sin, and I ask You to cleanse me of
all unrighteousness. I believe that Your Son, Jesus, died on the cross to take away my sins. I also believe that He rose again from
the dead so that I might be forgiven of my sins and made righteous through faith in Him. I call on Jesus Christ to come into my life
and be my Savior and Lord. Jesus, I choose to follow You and ask that You fill me with the power of the Holy Spirit. I declare that
right now I am a child of God. I am free of the penalty of sin and made righteous in the sight of God. I am saved in Jesus’ name. Amen.

New Discipleship Class
Once you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, you may start the process of becoming a disciple of St. Luke Baptist Church.
Candidates for discipleship must first attend and complete New Discipleship Classes. Classes are held every Sunday at 9:45am during the Sunday Bible Study Class time and on Mondays at 6:00pm.

        – Man’s Fall Into Sin
        – The Condition of Salvation

        – Spiritual Gifts

Baptism and the Right Hand of  Fellowship
Baptism
St. Luke Baptist Church typically performs the rite of baptism on the second Sunday of each month.
You will receive additional information on the baptism process during New Discipleship Classes.

Right Hand of Fellowship
The Right Hand of Fellowship is typically extended on the second Sunday, immediately following baptism during the Communion Service.
Candidates who have completed the New Discipleship Class and have been baptized, at either St. Luke Baptist Church or another church, are
eligible to receive the Right Hand of Fellowship. Upon receiving the Right Hand of Fellowship, all new disciples will receive a church membership
certificate, a list of SLBC ministries and their church membership envelopes.

Connect with a Ministry!
Ministries are the heart of our church! We need SLBC disciples to work in fellowship to serve the Lord through volunteering to help our church and community. Please visit the SLBC Ministries page for more information about joining an SLBC ministry. If you have specific questions about a ministry, please feel free to call the Church Office.

    What We Believe

For what shall it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his soul?

We believe it’s important to have a new members class at every church. These classes are supposed to be designed to give you a greater understanding of the principles, scriptural and spiritual guidelines that a community follows. The lessons are being outlined progressively in order to help with your knowledge of our church, as well as an overall knowledge of who is The God, what He teaches us and how you can praise His Name and Word
